I spotted these Rainbow Lorikeets in a large gum tree on my recent trip to Perth, and was amazed at how energetic they were!
For these shots, my camera was mounted on a tripod using my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens and Canon EF Extender III 2x for a total focal length of 400mm.
Location: East Fremantle, Western Australia
Great shots, James! Looks like they let you get nice and close.
We have a flock of them that hang around near our house most days. For a few days there, they’d descend on the pear tree next door. So beautiful and noisy. Definitely very energetic! I’m trying to get an appropriate bird feeder setup to bring them closer for photo time 😉
Thanks Japh!
Unfortunately I wasn’t as close as I would have liked. The birds were probably around 6-8m away from me, which meant I had to zoom in as far as possible and also crop the photos so that the birds filled the entire frame.
In an ideal world I would have a larger zoom lens, but that’s not going to happen for a while.
Thanks for stopping by!
